Where does my money go?

A note from the Temple Scarlet leaders...

We are so grateful for the support that has allowed for Temple Scarlet to grow exponentially since it's inception! As our organization continues it's sacred work, we have made a commitment to financial transparency. On this page we will provide our generous patrons and our community with details about the money exchanges involved with Temple Scarlet.

Last year in 2018 the Temple Scarlet Retreat cost over $1,500 to put on and was funded completely out of pocket by our passionate founder Katarina Elaine M. Our expected attendance numbers for the 2019 Temple Scarlet Retreat have doubled! Temple Scarlet has also blossomed into an organization and begun to provide year-round educational opportunities to the spiritual community. We've grown from an annual retreat alone, to hosting monthly open classes at Aquarius KC! Our classes and workshops continue to cover topics of polyamory, sex magick, body positivity, BDSM, tantra, emotional and sexual healing, sexual orientation, consent, and intimacy in all its forms. As the scope of our work expands, our need for adequate funding is expanding as well.

The venue for Temple Scarlet's annual retreat is an ideal clothing optional, spirituality focused, and consent oriented space known as The Gaea Retreat Center. The cost of reserving our chosen private space on this land for the Temple Scarlet Retreat totals over $300 plus additional camping fees for each individual person attending the event. Each year we must spend money further investing in workshop tenting for our retreat and restocking our safety and ritual supplies.

Some of our Temple Scarlet Retreat costs are fees that we absorb for others. In order to draw quality, knowledgeable, and experienced presenters to our retreat we do cover the camping fees for our presenters outright. The Temple Scarlet Retreat also offers a work exchange, Volunteer Registration, option that results in less income for us. We do this in part to help us find volunteers, and also to ensure that attendees of limited income are still able to be involved in our retreat. The Temple Scarlet Retreat registration prices will always remain reasonably low, because our intention is for Temple Scarlet events to always be affordable to anyone who may need a sacred sexuality experience!

The cost of reserving the event space at Aquarius KC for our time slot is currently $100 plus speaker fees of $40-100 for our monthly open classes and workshops. All of our events at Aquarius are free for attendees, and we intend to keep them that way!

Maintaining a visible online presence also comes at a price. Our website alone costs us $110 per year, and we also need a considerable amount of money for our Facebook page and for Google ads. The site, Eventbrite, which we utilize for online registration also charges us fluctuating fees per each registered attendee.

The bulk of the money that our Temple Scarlet Retreat attendees contribute when they register goes to covering the cost of venue rentals, excellent presenters, and retreat supplies. We are always in need of further donations! We prioritize our spending in roughly this order: venue rentals, presenter compensation, safety and first aid supplies, pop up tents and chairs, fire wood and fire safety supplies, ritual supplies, and additional financial aid for our presenters who travel to join us.

As Temple Scarlet raises greater amounts of money, in the future, those additional funds will be shared back into the community as donations to The Gaea Retreat Center which graciously hosts us, and other organizations like Planned Parenthood, which encourage and assist with sexual health and sacred sexuality related work.

Thank you for your registration, your style of support whatever it may be, and for being a part of this movement of sexual healing and consent culture! We will be hosting fundraisers throughout the year and donations can always be given at our open monthly classes or directly to our founder.
