The Kali Shrine
HISTORY
The hand carved wooden statue depicting Tantric Kali came from the Pashupatinat Hindu Temple, the largest temple complex in Nepal. It was one of many crafted specifically for the annual Kali festival during which the statues are ceremonially burned. This Tantric Kali, however, remained intact and made its way to the Aquarius metaphysical store before being purchased by folks involved in the Temple Scarlet community and donated to The Gaea Retreat Center.
The statue arrived with the pandemic in 2019 and so the Kali Shrine was not established until the Autumn of 2020. It was placed in the area known as Old Way.
For five years Tantric Kali connected with and worked her will and received admiration and offerings form the Greater Kansas City Spiritual Community.
Inevitably the Tantric Kali statue degraded, decayed, and broke down into pieces. Community members requested closure. In the Autumn of 2025 the Tantric Kali statue was burned by the Founder of Temple Scarlet in a Puja style ceremony during the Samhain weekend festivities.
​ABOUT TANTRIC KALI
Kali is a Hindu Goddess of many faces, and this depiction of her is best known as Tantric Kali. Tantric Kali dances upon her willing consort Shiva, who acts in a grounding and supporting role, allowing Tantric Kali to express her wild and divine power to it's fullest. Kali often acts as a force of great change, clearing a way for better things.
